The Villages First Dragon Boat Launches
The Villages Recreation and Parks division is excited to reveal their very first Dragon Boat. Dragon Boat racing has been a popular competitive sport in The Villages for nearly twenty years – now, a new dragon boat is hitting the water custom designed for our community making it the perfect perfect addition for Villagers looking to enjoy this timeless sport!
What Makes The Villages Dragon Boat Special
Built by Pan-American Dragon Boat, this particular Dragon Boat was designed and built by a Villager, for Villagers. With the growing popularity of Dragon Boat racing in The Villages, this boat will be the first Dragon Boat owned and operated by The Villages Recreation and Parks for use in classes, Camp Villages, and other events.
What is Dragon Boat Racing?
Dragon Boat Racing is a team sport with roots in ancient China, over 2000 years ago! Teams paddle in time to outpace the competition, often with a drummer at the bow to keep the paddlers in unison, and an experienced helmsman at the stern to steer the boat. There are around four hundred Dragon Boat paddlers active in The Villages, making it one of the largest Dragon Boat clubs in the United States.
