It’s the season of giving and one way we give back here at the Woodworkers Club is through our Santa’s Helpers and our toy department.
We have various organizations that we work with and every year they give us a list of the kind of toys that they want for the people that they serve and they have a inventory of about 30 different types of toys that they make from scratch. It starts with raw lumber. There are a number of us that are here almost every day and we actually make uh approximately about a thousand toys a month. It’s not just Christmas time. It’s throughout the year. Let’s say an orphanage or some special place asks for, you know, we need 100 box cars or something and then we get going with making them because it’s a it’s a priority. But they’ve all got to be painted, too. So, we have people that are doing meticulous painting on all of that. So, it’s it’s a nice project. Last year we actually made almost very very close to 10,000 toys for the year and that is a huge amount of toys to be donated to all the charities. The feeling that you get knowing that these toys are going to children that are really needing toys is so rewarding. I can’t even it’s tough to explain. We are all of a mindset that we want to give back to our communities to to help kids to do whatever we can to make life better for the area that we live in. If you’re interested in becoming a toy maker, just give us a call, stop by our woodworkers shop, and we’ll help you get started by becoming a woodworkers club member. There are many ways you can get involved in giving back this season and you can find it right here at our recreation centers such as the pajama and book drive, toys for tots and angel tree. So we decided to instead of doing a secret Santa among a a group of us that live on Coward Circle, we decided to do a um angel tree instead. So we’re going to get together with a bunch of ladies on Coward Circle and we’re going to adopt right now six different kids. We are looking forward to going shopping and getting some nice gifts for these kids. For more information on those and more, check out our recreation publication or go online at districtgov.org.
