From Student to Teacher: Jordann’s Full-Circle Story

[Music] The Villages has always been more than just a place to live. It’s a vibrant community. Now you have a unique way to showcase your love for The Villages by purchasing a voucher for The Villages Specialty License Plate. With every plate purchased, you’re helping support world class education for students at the Villages Charter School. Meet Jordann, a former student and a passionate art teacher at The Villages High School. The charter school is more than a charter school. It is a foundation for life because I look at the core values that the school stands for. The hard work, stewardship, creativity, and hospitality. That’s what I grew up on. That’s what I was raised on and that’s still what is important to me. That’s what I’m teaching my son. I am super passionate about our school and our school as a community. I’ve been a part of the charter school now for 25 years in terms of being a student and now as a teacher. And also as a parent, I have a little one going to the ECC. And I love it. There is no better and more supportive community I’ve been a part of than this one. I loved high school. I can remember participating in the swim team here. The coach that I had for swim team when I was in high school is still the coach for the swim team here. So, it’s made it really nice in terms of coming back as a teacher. What really excited me, especially in high school, was the academies. When I was in high school, I was so excited about the academies, I took the health science academy, and now coming back, there’s 19 academies. I had my CNA license, and I was able to work as a CNA in college to help pay for college. So, quite literally, the foundation of the school, what the school is built on, is what I was raised on. And one of those core values is creativity, which as an art teacher, I love because that’s something that kind of fostered a passion for me and let me kind of explore a bunch of different things in college and find out what career path I was meant to be on. My goal is not to get kids to be the world’s greatest artists. My goal is to get the kids to be well-rounded individuals and art is a class that inspires them and brings them comfort. We started the Buffalo Market which is a student led art-based market here at The Villages. We started three years ago and part of the school’s vision is to create entrepreneurial based students. So we have this whole course that’s about creating a business art class where the students make their own businesses. We license it as an EIN and they’re selling their own taxable products at the market that they are handmaking from scratch. Our last Buffalo market being the third year, our first one had 800 in attendance. Our last one had 4,500. So, it was really exciting. [Music] Buying a voucher helps show your support for the community and show that you’re someone that’s passionate about The Villages. I’m excited to get one of the vouchers because I love having that conversation starter to start telling people I’m from the Villages. I’m proud of it and I love it. Your support helps fuel the dreams of The Villages Charter School students, not only today, but also tomorrow and all the generations to come. We’re in a race to sell 3,000 pre-sale vouchers. Once we hit that milestone, these plates will begin to be manufactured. Purchase your pre-sale voucher today and help us make more dreams come true.
