Celebrating America's 250th: Abraham Lincoln Statue

[music] All right. [cheering] We have unveiled a statue of Abraham Lincoln. This is part of Florida’s celebration of America 250 and it’s actually probably the sixth or seventh in the series we’ve been doing. I think it’s appropriate to have it here in The Villages because I know there’s a lot of patriotism. I know people really appreciate not just the founding fathers but also people that have exemplified what the founding fathers stood for. I think Honest Abe is one of those. His legacy is enduring. He’s rated as one of the top presidents in American history and now we’ll always have this here to be able to pay proper respects. It’s important to be able to have opportunities for people all around the state to go and experience these monuments. So, we’ve done our best to try to move them around the state, but specifically in The Villages though, we knew it would be a place where people would be able to come. It would be highly, you know, there’d be a lot of people that could easily get here and we want to have something that future generations can look to. Thanks everybody. Happy 4th of July.
