Many years ago, Dave embarked on a career in real estate development. Being young and idealistic, he dreamed of building the perfect community. It would be a friendly relaxed place where neighbors not only knew each other but would actually do things together.

There would be lots of fun activities that would enrich the mind, body and even the soul. Exciting gathering areas, peaceful clusters of homes, recreation areas filled with enthusiastic players, and vibrant markets all of which would be interspersed with mystical nature preserves filled with majestic trees and wildlife. Cars would drive slower, cycling and walking would be preferred ways to travel. It was a beautiful dream.

The reality was he worked on master planned communities that had a golf course and some other amenities where he sold chunks of land to production builders. Each builder would focus on their site and not much else. The result was always the same. A collection of disconnected pieces – a bunch of homes in one area, a strip shopping center with a gym, an office building, a school, a park and maybe a church all operating independently on their piece of land. The car was the only way to go from one place to another. The residents tended to live in small, isolated groups.

For forty years Dave worked on those communities that were a disappointing reality, far removed from his dream. However, two years ago, Linette, his gorgeous wife, and he stumbled upon The Villages and at once they both cried out: “This is it!” Golf cars and gators were not part of the dream but should have been. It has been an incredible two years since they arrived. They made many friends, discovered new activities and started living a lifestyle they had only dreamed about.
