Like many folks, Windi immediately fell head over heels in love with The Villages during her first Lifestyle Preview visit in 2020. This one-of-a-kind destination so brilliantly tailored for retirement is much more to Windi than championship golf courses, custom golf cars, resort style pools, pickleball, nature preserves and trails, clubs, and daily live entertainment, to name a few. It’s a lifestyle for Windi and her husband, Clay, that can be summed as chicken soup for the soul.

Both Windi and Clay were born and raised in Virginia. Clay served 12 years with the Virginia State Police and 26 years in the U.S. Army while Windi enjoyed a 20-year career in education teaching in middle school, high school, and in higher education. During Clay’s three overseas deployments, Windi earned a bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from Bridgewater College in Virginia, and both a master’s and PhD. in Career and Technical Education from Virginia Tech in Virginia.

Their daughter, Kaila, lives in Virginia where she works for FEMA and enjoys frequent visits to The Villages so she can play pickleball with her mom, and cart to the squares for live entertainment and to the recreation centers to swim and work out. Kaila also loves to play with her “brothers,” DeeJay the Labradoodle, and Bailee the Yorkie.

Windi is an educator, lifelong learner, storyteller, and everyone’s cheerleader. Her core values are built on a bedrock of love, a passion for living a kind and robust life, and a commitment to building caring relationships. From an assiduous cheerleading coach to an energetic family and consumer sciences teacher, to a gritty grad student, to a “publish or perish” university professor, to an innovative university administrator, to a dedicated Villages DreamMaker, she’s learned a thing or two about hard work.
